How to Recharge Batteries in Freezer?

Have you ever been the victim of a battery that has lost its ability to hold a charge? Car lights might've flickered or your cell phone decided it needed a short nap in the middle of an important call. The good news is, there's a trick to recharging these types of batteries to their full potential without spending too much money. All you need is an ordinary household item. It's called cold rejuicing, and it's easy to do!

What are AAA batteries?

AAA batteries, also known as penlight batteries, are standard size dry cell battery that's used for many household items. They're about the same size as most button-sized batteries and they produce 1.5 volts each.

How do you recharge AAA batteries in the freezer?

To put your AAA batteries back into tip-top shape, you'll need to put them in the freezer for about 6 hours. This process will bring the battery's "charge capacity" number up to 1.1 or 1.2 volts. After this, take your batteries out of the freezer and let them warm up for a bit before using them. After this, you'll see your batteries working like new.

Here is how to go about it;

-Take out the battery from the device

-Place it in a plastic bag

-Put the plastic bag in a freezer for 12 hours

-After 12 hours, take out the battery from the plastic bag and let it warm up for 20 minutes

-do not install the battery back until it reaches room temperatures

-Now, install the battery back to your device and see if it has any effect

The cold rejuice process is especially useful if your batteries are about to be put to rest. If you plan on storing your AAA batteries for a long time, it's wise to do this process beforehand to get the most use out of them.

-Make sure you leave batteries in the freezer for no more than three months at a time or put them back in your device and use them whenever needed because battery leakage is highly likely if they stay in the freezer for over three months

What happens if you freeze a battery?

When you freeze a battery, its energy usually increases to a certain extent. It is important to note that the energy levels only increase by a five percent margin. Therefore, some batteries can go as far as to say that they feel more powerful after the process.

The advantage of freezing a battery is that there is no risk of getting burned like you would when you recharge it with a charger. Even if the cold temperatures are not enough to boost the overall energy levels, there is still no risk of injury or even damage since this method does not involve taking batteries apart.

Freezing batteries also helps boost their lifespan. However, because there are no practical differences between the two, most people simply recharge their batteries with a regular charger after this process.

Wrap Up

Cold recharging is a simple and easy method for giving new life to your old or dead AAA batteries. Be aware of the fact that only rechargeable batteries will react this way, so you cannot use this trick on standard batteries. You can also use this method on your alkaline batteries to recycle them, but not for recharging.
